The Financial Reporting Council is the UK’s independent regulator responsible for promoting confidence in corporate governance and reporting. We promote high standards of corporate governance through the Combined Code, but do not monitor or enforce its implementation by individual boards. We set standards for corporate reporting and actuarial practice and monitor and enforce accounting and auditing standards. We also oversee the regulatory activities of the professional accountancy bodies and operate independent disciplinary arrangements for public interest cases involving accountants and actuaries. We believe that there are strong connections between the issues of corporate governance, auditing, actuarial practice, corporate reporting and the professionalism of accountants and actuaries. We believe that the breadth of our responsibilities and functions will enhance our effectiveness. |
